Can Onur Avci, currently postdoctoral researcher at ETH Zurich, will join the ICMAB to develop cutting-edge device concepts and explore new physics for future spintronics applications using magnetic insulators. In total, 436 laureates of the 2020 European Research Council (ERC) Starting Grants competition will be able to tackle big scientific questions at universities and research centres across Europe. The grants are part of the EU's research and innovation programme, Horizon 2020.
Hello everyone! My name is Martín Testa Anta and I am from the marvelous Galicia. I am joining ICMAB to work under the supervision of Dr. Can Onur Avci within the ERC Starting Grant project ‘MAGNEPIC’. My research will be focused on the spin-torque control of magnetization in ferrimagnetic insulators. Outside the lab, I love sports and nature, particularly hiking and cycling far and wide to different places. I am looking forward to making the most of this experience. See you all around!
Hello, my name is Silvia and I am from Italy. I have just got my PhD degree from the University of Groningen in the Netherlands and now I am starting to work at ICMAB within the MAGNEPIC project under the supervision of Dr. Can Onur Avci. My research here will focus on the study of the spin-flop transition in thin films of ferrimagnetic insulators grown by sputtering. I look forward to getting to know everyone!
Hi there! I am Stefano from Trento (Italy). I studied Engineering Physics at Politecnico di Milano and now I am starting my PhD at ICMAB within the 'MAGNEPIC' project under the supervision of Dr Can Onur Avci. This project focuses on spin-torque magnetization control in ferrimagnetic insulators, a topic that has fascinated me since my Master's thesis at ETH Zurich last year. Outside of the lab, I enjoy hiking, playing sports, and listening to music. Because of my Italian heritage, of course I also enjoy cooking and eating. See you around!
